German Women Find Delight in Association with Negroes; Unlike Americans, Couple Appear in Daylight Rather Than After Dark
-------------------------------------

THE NEGRO IS A CURIOSITY IN LEIPZIG
-------------------------------------
Leipzig -- Railroad travelling in Germany is very cheap, the cheapest in Europe. One may ride from Berlin to Munich, a distance of 390 miles, for less than five dollars, fourth class. There are four classes on the German trains, and the only difference worth noting between third and fourth is that the former goes on the fast trains, and the latter on the slow ones.
The difference between second and thrid is the matter of upholstery; the third class has woden seats from Berlin to Munich, the second class which looks a bit more pretentious than our day coaches costs $12.01, or about one-third less than America. Third class si $8,17. I sampled the fourth class, expecting to find only laborers with bundles, but was surprised to see the quality and appearance  of some of the people I saw. The normal method of travel of the middle class folk seem to be third class, while only the very wealthy seem tot ravel first.
From Amsterdam to Berlin I traveled third class, finding the accomodation very good for the price, only ten dollars. The cars were kept very clean, and as to the toilets one found them in what he does not even in America, individula hand towels. One wonders how the railroads are able to do this, because as I said, they are compelled to bear the main part of the burden under the Dawes reparation plan.
The trains, too, are fast and are usually on time. The nation is well connected by rail, a fact to which the German army owed much of its success. Unless I am mistaken I think Germany has, proportionally, a rail mileage greater even than the United States.
