Subject

Woodside Park, Fairmount Park, Mount Scenic Railway Ride; segregated amusements

Description

Vistors at Woodside Park ride the Mt. Scenic Railway Ride. Woodside Park was an amusement park built in Fairmount Park that was similar to Coney Island. While most rides were open to both White and Black visitors, the dance hall and swimming pool were exclusively reserved for White patrons. During the time Woodside was open, the Fairmount Trolley Company ran trolley lines to transport visitors to and from the park. The park closed in the 1950s and was later demolished.
