Philadelphia Independent

This image shows the Philadelphia Independent office on 1708 Lombard Street, Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Independent was a Black newspaper that acted as a tabloid for African-American Philadelphians. Founded and owned by Forrest White Woodard, it had a Democratic base to balance the Republican coverage of the Philadelphia Tribune.
